It is my great honor and privilege to welcome you to the Regional Urban Development Project (RUDP) and the Urban Resilience and Livelihood Improvement Project (URLIP), two transformative initiatives spearheading sustainable urban development in Nepal. With generous financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under Loan 3566-NEP, these projects are committed to strengthening urban infrastructure, enhancing resilience, and improving livelihoods across strategically selected municipalities.

Nepal is experiencing rapid urbanization, presenting both opportunities and challenges. The RUDP is designed to stimulate economic growth, improve municipal service delivery, and create well-planned urban clusters that serve as regional economic hubs. By upgrading roads, drainage systems, waste management, and urban facilities, the project aims to build modern, well-connected, and sustainable cities that will drive long-term regional development.

Complementing these efforts, the URLIP focuses on enhancing urban resilience and improving livelihood opportunities, ensuring that our cities are not only economically vibrant but also socially inclusive and climate-resilient. The project emphasizes disaster risk reduction, climate-adaptive infrastructure, and community-based livelihood programs. These initiatives empower vulnerable populations, particularly women, youth, and marginalized groups, enabling them to actively participate in and benefit from urban growth.

To achieve these goals, Project Implementation Units (PIUs) have been established in Biratnagar, Birgunj, Nepalgunj, and Siddharthanagar municipalities, while a regional Federal Project Implementation Unit (FPIU) in Dhangadhi oversees developments in Godawari, Bheemdatt, Dhangadhi, and Shuklaphanta municipalities. These units ensure effective coordination, implementation, and alignment with national urban policies, fostering strong collaboration between the government, local municipalities, and development partners.

Both RUDP and URLIP are more than just infrastructure projects—they represent a shared commitment to building resilient, inclusive, and future-ready cities. By integrating sustainability, innovation, and community participation, we are shaping an urban landscape that promotes balanced economic growth, social equity, and environmental sustainability.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Nepal, our funding partners, local municipalities, and all stakeholders for their unwavering support and dedication. Together, we are paving the way for a stronger, more resilient, and prosperous urban Nepal.
